Today, for the capital team was really a holiday! A day off to celebrate the great Muslim holiday of Kurban Bayram, and just two major sporting events of the city – it is a match hockey club Barys in the KHL and, of course, the opening of the season in the new United VTB league between the capital BC Astana and Russian BC Triumph.
But for the BC Astana has been a reason for celebration and a good game. Our club’s founder, Managing Director of Samruk – Kazyna and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the President’s professional club Astana, Darkhan Amanovich Kaletayev had a birthday today! And it’s a beautiful day for Mr. Kaletayev, club’s players just could not give the victory away.
The first match of the season VTB United League Kazakhstan striker Anton Ponomarev missed due to injury, also missed the match Timur Sultanov and Paul Ilyin, who also were recovering.
As part of the opponent’s leg also missed some of the leaders of the Canadian team striker Kyle Landry and Pavel Spiridonov.
Starting Five of capital team has been very interesting: Brion Rush, Pat Kalates, Anatoly Kolesnikov, David Simon and Jerry Johnson.
Ball won by an opponent and immediately got 2 points. BC Astana couldn’t play their best game. BC Astana opened the score with Jerry Johnson’s free throw. But the situation clearly made head coach of BC Astana unhappy and he took a
timeout. After a short break, David Simon brings 4 points in a row. By the end of period game was become more positive, but nevertheless the period was for the BC Triumph -15-18 .
The second period began active, three-pointer from Janis Blooms and the score is tied 18-18 . The situation has improved with three pointer from Jerry Johnson, but also in response to rival it brought some easy goals. But by the end of the period Simon Johnson and Blooms – Kalates played well and we went into the lead. The second time was 44:38 for the hosts, and the teams go for a big break.
After a long break the winning spirit has been unstoppable, capital team went into the lead 10 with points. But it was impossible to relax. The period was well played in the defense. Fans also were pleased by Simon’s beautiful dunk and Johnson’s dribble with beautiful scoring goals. Third ten-minutes remained on BC Astana’s with the score – 63:57.
Last ten minutes, has stood out as a general rule the most intense. There have been losses, and fouls, but the capital team fought to the last minutes.
We celebrate first win of the capital team – 95:76!

For us, it was certainly a tough game. We have an incomplete squad. A lot of injured players. Also quite young main squad. Yesterday it was unable to have a normal workout, because there were only 9 players. One player last night just arrived, he is an American,
so we’re a little bit unsettled. The first time we played good, on in the second did not have the physics and, of course, gain experience and gain. Big problems with 3 pointers, we do not have what I would like, now looking for the third number, a real sniper.

First, congratulations to the young team, BC Triumph and their coach. Because you see that behind this team is a big project. They did not have enough key players. I loved the energy and enthusiasm that they have shown. I am very upset about the quality of our game. Next week we have a different game with a different opponent – CSKA Moscow. And we need to understand that we are the team that there are only two years, despite the fact that we have improved our
composition. And we have to earn the respect of our sponsors, our fans, our competitors in our game, not our services in the past and the size of our contracts. We need a lot more work, because with such performances we will not be able to pass too far.
Next match, capital basketball players will play away on October 20th. And the opponent will be titled CSKA Moscow.
