Today, the capital basketball players held their fourth match of VTB United League. BC Astana played away with the champion of Ukraine – BC Azovmash.
BC Astana went to the match with a full squad. Starting line-up: Jerry Johnson, Brion Rush, Dmitry Klimov, David Simon and Pat Kalates.
Both teams could not play out for a long time. Just 2 minutes later Pat Kaletes open the score – 2:0. Ukrainian Maxim Pustozvonov first responded to the attack of BC Astana. The whole period was about exchanges of balls in the basket: for every scored ball, the opponents responded with his. BC Astana still managed to keep the lead in the first period – 23:14.
The second period also continued at a good pace. Branko Cvetkovic played a point guard position while Johnson was resting , and played good. Anatoly Kolesnikov good as well. The gap in the second period was already 11 points. But by the end of the period, BC Astana made a mistake, and the difference in score reduced. Nevertheless, the period was in BC Astana’s favor – 39:38. Big break.

The home team with the support of their fans, started to play good and took the lead. But our team wasn’t far behind. By the middle of the period, the score was equal – 52:52. BC Astana tried hard to get even, but the third period was for the owners of parquet, 67:62.
The last period, was tense. Brion Rush with Johnson brought a three-pointer. Simon equalized, 69:69. The leader of BC Azovmash Maxim Pustozvonov got his fifth foul and went to watch the game from the bench. In the meantime, BC Astana came forward by forces of Branko Cvetkovic and David Simon (75:73). The ending was nervous. BC Astana earned many fouls on the opponent, and Ukrainians scored points. As a result, the meeting ended with a score of 79:80, in favor of BC Azovmash. Kazakhstanians needed just 1 point to get their 3rd victory in the VTB United league .
The best in the match were: David Simon with 21 points, Branko Cvetkovic 20 points and Brion Rush 12 points.
The next match of the capital team will be at home on November 6-7th. BC Astana meets BC Kaspiy from Aktau in the Championship of Kazakhstan.
The next meeting in the VTB United league will also take place away against BC Krasniy Oktyabr (Volgograd).
